The Spirit of Aloha
Introduction
“It is the dawning of a new age of enlightenment when the secrets of the sacred spiritual teachings are being revealed, demystified, translated and updated into modern intentions.”
The Spirit of Aloha is written to assist you to empower and enlighten your path of personal growth and spiritual development.
For those of you currently on a path, you will find that the Huna teachings will compliment whatever you have studied, or are learning now, as sacred knowledge is both eternal and everlasting.
For current Huna students, you will find valuable new information that is otherwise not in print. There is an important extension and expansion of the traditional Three Selves model. There are Five Selves in Kahililani Huna and five new categories of “mana” life force energy.
For all readers, there are seven pragmatic and practical Huna principles to assist you in creating and manifesting your future. The Seven Principles of Light will enlighten your visions and empower your goals into reality.
In addition, there is an important emphasis on the teachings of aloha and how they are the keys to personal freedom, self-mastery, happiness and success.
At the heart of any spiritual system there are basic principles and truths that are common to all and, on a very practical level, simply common sense.
This is a book about choice, and action.
And, in order for something as simple as common sense to become common experience, action is required.
As a result, parts of the book are written in workshop format. I have utilized simplicity, repetition and multiple descriptions in order to accelerate your learning. I have also included a workbook section on how to put aloha into action in your life.
Aloha is the heart of Hawaiian Huna. Simply defined, aloha means love; and yet, as you will discover, aloha is a whole lot more. Throughout the book I will define and redefine aloha in a variety of ways and expressions, in order to awaken it from deep inside you, as you are its source. The Spirit of Aloha was written to assist you to recognize aloha and remember it, as yourself.
The Spirit of Aloha is for anyone, whether you are beginning your personal journey or are advanced on your spiritual quest. It will bring positive change to you and there will be significant benefits as a result. You will find that you can apply what you have learned, anywhere, anytime.
In fact, I will recommend that you apply it everywhere and always, because the universe above and the world outside act as mirrors:
They shine their brilliance and reflect back to you - you.
Huna is the sacred spiritual teaching of Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, Huna means “secret, hidden, not obvious.” It is the term used to describe the esoteric teachings behind the spiritual way of life of the ancient Hawaiian people.
Huna is considered to be a secret teaching, as it explains the secrets and mysteries of the universe, god and nature, and their relationship with mankind, both individually and collectively.
Psychologically, it describes the inner workings of the human mind and the dynamics of thought and emotion. Philosophically, it is the light that guides the way to the spirit and the heart. Metaphysically, it explains how things work, outside and beyond the awareness of ordinary waking consciousness: the “what else” that is not obvious.
In the late 1700's, Captain Cook arrived in Hawaii as a precursor to the Christian missionaries that soon followed. Part of the reason Huna is considered secret is due to western indoctrination and intervention. Its practice was outlawed and its practitioners, the Kahuna, were forced to teach in secret. Another reason the secrets remained hidden was that the Huna philosophy itself was contrary to the intent and belief systems of those who sought to understand and control it.
Most significantly, Huna is a practice-based philosophy. Its message can only be fully understood through its practice and the embodiment of its lessons. Huna is considered mysterious because it is virtually impossible to understand intellectually. It is ultimately only through its practice that its deepest secrets will be revealed.
The purpose of Huna is to expand the knowledge, awareness and capabilities of the ordinary conscious mind. Its purpose is to awaken the mind’s potential to the extraordinary consciousness of the spirit and the heart.
Huna is a proven system of personal growth and spiritual development, whose secrets have been carefully preserved and passed from teacher to student for countless generations. Its teachers are known as the Kahuna, the keepers of the secrets. Its mysteries source back tens of thousands of years, to the mythical islands of Lemuria, when the Kahuna were known as the descendants of the light.
The Huna system is similar to any other shamanistic or spiritual school of thought and practice. The basis of Huna is similar in nature to the teachings of the Native Americans, the Australian Aboriginals and the New Zealand Maori. They are fundamentally the same as the European teachings of Alchemy, Hermetics and Wicca, and similar again to the ancient teachings from Egypt, China and India. The significant differences between them are largely idiosyncratic to the individual cultures, the languages and the times. The essences are the same. The elements are similar.
The essences are the light and love of the Higher Self and their reflection within the human heart.
The elements of Huna include ritual and ceremony. There is the Hula dance and the sacred chants. There is massage, breath and energy work, herbology and natural medicine. Huna reveals the awareness of the dreamtime as well as sacred sexual practices for health and well being. The more mysterious side of Huna encompasses mystical initiation and high magic. There is meditation, communion and prayer to the Higher Self, the gods and other unseen forces.
The Huna teachings contain the secrets to our evolution. Its wisdom is eternal, its message universal, and its expression is through aloha, which, in a coconut shell, means love.
In the spiritual tradition of Huna, if taken to task, it is the responsibility of the teacher to further the sacred teachings. This includes a lifetime dedication to contribution and service, as well as many actions expressive of the intent. It can include the actions of writing and teaching and it does include the challenge of being and becoming a living example.
This responsibility includes respecting and honoring my teacher, his teachings and my position within our sacred lineage. Gratitude and blessings for all the teachers behind us, all the way back through time, as they are its source.
It is the responsibility of each teacher to hold sacred and preserve the essences of the ancient Huna system, while at the same time carefully selecting the messages that are to be adopted and adapted to modern times. Each teacher takes the essences of the eternal and envisions them into the future in order to further the teachings in a way that best serves the original intent.
In this process lies a delicate balance between the past and the future, and therein lies the challenge to balance the teachings in the present. To invoke the wisdom of the ages, to provide relevancy now, while evoking potential for the students of the future, until such time that they in turn rise up to their own level of challenge and mastery, for they are the potential and the future.
As one of the fortunate who have found themselves in such a position, at all times, I have found the answers within my Spirit and my Heart. And it is from within the Spirit in my Heart that I have discovered and am now furthering the original intent.
Magic Demystified
Over the last decade, I have taken the traditional Huna teachings and distilled their essences, in order to be able to present them in a logical and cognitive way. My focus has been to simplify complex spiritual systems, in order to save students years of study and practice. In short, to demystify magic.
I have translated the ancient Hawaiian concepts to make them make sense to the western thinker. I have further updated them to ensure their practical application in today's fast-paced and ever-changing world.
As times change, teachings evolve.
Welcome to the Kahililani system of Hawaiian Huna and the teachings of aloha. Kahililani Huna is an intelligent and organized system of knowledge and practice that is designed to awaken the Spirit from within your Mind, Heart and Soul.
This book is a valuable introduction to the principles and practices of Kahililani Huna that are taught in the workshop, The Spirit of Aloha. The intent is the same as that of the workshop. Its purpose is to enlighten and empower you on your path of personal growth and spiritual development. The goal is to direct you towards the original intent of the Huna teachings, the heart-centered consciousness of aloha.
Aloha is the difference that is the difference in Kahililani Huna.
